Van Life DIYs

When you buy a van, it usually does not come fully renovated and ready to live in. Some people might purchase a van that is already ready to live in, but others have to renovate their vans themselves.

People do DIY for multiple reasons; DIY means “do it yourself.” This means that instead of going to the store to purchase something, you make it by yourself at home. This is helpful if you want to save some money, or if you want to personalize something.

If you are personally renovating your van into a home, that is DIY.

When converting your van into a suitable living space, there are a lot of things to keep in mind. One thing is that vans have windows… so would you want curtains? What about the furniture… do you want a bed that can change into a couch or a table? Maybe you want the bed to have storage underneath it to save room. These are all parts of the DIY that you can benefit from.

You essentially have to come up with a design for your van that will work best for you.

If I were to renovate my own van, some DIY things I would do would be to make some black-out curtains. Since I would be sleeping in my van, the sunlight would easily wake me up if I did not have anything to block out the windows with. Black-out curtains also allow for Privacy. This DIY only requires sowing materials, some thick fabric, a way to measure the windows, and a curtain rod that fits the windows of your van.

Another DIY could be adding velcro to items that may move while driving down the road. This DIY is extremely simple. This only requires some velcro and scissors. Measure out a piece of velcro and pick the size based on the item it will be on, and then cut it. Peel both pieces apart and place one on the bottom of the item and the other on the place the item will sit in the van. This can help keep a lot of things secure in the van.

One more DIY idea for van life is a DIY fruit basket. I have seen many pictures of people having their own DIY fruit baskets in their vans and it is such a great idea. All you need is a crochet bag and some hooks. You hang it on the wall or from the ceiling and you save more space.
